December 2, 1944 – July 28, 2023
Ted, (John Edward) Kinney left this life on July 28, 2023. He leaves behind his wife, Lois, sons, Glen and Ian, daughters-in-law, Julie and Julie and the fabulous five, his granddaughters Erika, Annika, Alyssa, Emily and Megan. Also left to mourn his loss are sister-in-law Geneva Kinney and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Joan and Steve Campbell. He is also missed by many cousins, relatives and lots of personal friends. Ted was predeceased by his parents Betty and Doug Kinney, and by his brother Ron.
Ted grew up in Trenton, Ontario. Following his teaching certification, he moved to the Peterborough area where he and Lois raised their two sons in Ennismore and Bridgenorth. In retirement they moved to New Hamburg, Ontario where they enjoyed the friends and activities in their adult community. Many pleasant winters were spent in Florida.
Ted loved sports, travel and outdoor adventures. He thrived in organizing trips to many parts of the world for he and Lois to enjoy. He enjoyed the challenge of billiards, bocce and crossword puzzles. He liked sitting and chatting with neighbours and friends as they tried to solve world problems. Ted found great pleasure taking a long bike ride on a nice day. He valued family traditions and enjoyed family gatherings. His granddaughters made a large wall collage of family photos, and it gave him great pleasure to see it as he worked at his desk or rode on his exercise bike.
His life was a good one. He wrote a short biography of his life and in it he states, “I was fortunate to graduate university, marry, have children and grandchildren, have a career, meet interesting people and travel the world extensively.”
As Winnie the Pooh said, “If there is ever a day when we can’t be together, keep me in your heart, I’ll stay there forever. We will carry him in our hearts as he heads into his next adventure.
We are respecting Ted’s wishes for cremation and no funeral service. The family has shared a private time together to mourn their loss.
