It is with heavy hearts we announce the loss of our dearest John who passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Joseph Brant Hospital, on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at the age of 67. Devoted husband and soul-mate to Leanne Monkman (nee Spinks) whom he has been lovingly married to for 36 wonderful years. Cherished father to James Spinks of Burlington, Lindsay (Joshua) Hilton of Lynden and Quinn (Kassie) Monkman of Burlington. Immensely proud grandfather to Ellie, John and Henry. Forever in the hearts of his brothers Richard, Rodney and Cleary Monkman and their families. Predeceased by his parents George and Nancy Monkman (nee Howe). Always remembered by his extended family and friends across Canada and Florida. John was an active member of the Engineering community and a well-respected Geotechnical Engineer and took great pride in sharing his knowledge with all those who crossed his path. As an avid New York Rangers fan, he always kept the team close to his heart cheering them on every step of the way. John may be gone from this world; however, he lives on in the stories and memories he has left with all those he touched during his lifetime. As per John’s wishes, and that of his family, a private cremation has taken place. Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop light north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Wednesday July 19, 2023 from 3-5 and 7-9pm, where the Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday July 20, 2023 at 1pm. If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society would be sincerely appreciated by the family. A special thanks to Dr. Sowery, Dr. Garland, Social worker Amanda Wong and all the amazing staff at Joseph Brant Hospital for their outstanding care and support.
