John passed away suddenly at home on Wednesday, July 26th, 2023, at age 78.
Survived by his wife Brenda (nee Hanniman), son Darrell (Christine) granddaughters Michaela and Kathryn, son David (Stephanie) and baby girl Klerks due in October, step son Michael Brierley (Anna) granddaughter Eleanor, step daughter Jennifer Brierley (Keith Richards) grandsons Owen, Liam, and granddaughter Zoey.
John was the youngest of 11 children. He is predeceased by his parents, nine brothers, and one sister.
John retired in 2017 after 54 years of service between the military and the Public Service. He and Brenda moved to Renfrew after he retired. In his retirement he thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his animals, Zuko, Tucker, and Matt. John was an avid reader.
Our family wishes to thank the emergency response teams, and the doctor and staff at the Renfrew Victoria Hospital. Very special thanks to neighbours Brian and Margie MacKenzie for the kindness and compassion extended to our family.
Friends and family are welcome to gather at Zohr Family Funeral Home, Renfrew where visitation will be held on Monday, July 31, 2023 from 9:00am until time of celebration in the Zohr Family Chapel at 11:00am. Reception to follow. John loved the simple things in life, please don’t wear suits or ties, he hated both.

Rest in peace Uncle John. Have many memories of our visits to Grandpa and Grandma’s when you were young in Cheslea.
My sincerest condolences for your loss. I worked with John at the end of his career. John was wonderful to work with, a talented writer, with a broad scope of knowledge and often shared funny anecdotes about his life.
My sincerest condolences to John’s family and friends. We worked together for many years when he was a civilian working for DND. Always a wealth of knowledge.
It was a pleasure working with and knowing John.
