Obituary of Joan Halman
Johanna “Joan” Halman, formerly of Johnston’s River, passed away peacefully with family by her side at the Mount Continuing Care Community on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at the age of 88 years. Beloved wife for 62 years of the late Martin Halman and loving mother of Betsy O’Brien (Louis), Anne Monaghan, Margaretha Byrne (Patrick), Diane Halman (Steve MacQuarrie, deceased), Louise Verleun (Peter), John Halman (Sheila) and Marty Halman (Donna). Johanna will be lovingly remembered by 16 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren, son-in-law Tommy Byrne, sister Diny Van der Linden in Nova Scotia, sister-in-law Ida Vreeling of Sturgeon, three brothers and two sisters and their families in the Netherlands and numerous nieces and nephews both in Canada and the Netherlands. She was predeceased by her daughter Jackie Byrne, brother Julian Vreeling, five brothers and two sisters in the Netherlands. Resting at the Hillsboro Funeral Home, 2 Hollis Avenue, Stratford for visitation on Tuesday, April 4 from 5:00-8:00 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 5 at 10:30 am at St. Patrick’s Church, Fort Augustus. Interment later in the church cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Patrick’s Church Cemetery Fund or to the Parkinson’s Society.
