With great sadness, the family of Donald James “Jim” Kennedy announce his passing at the Brockville General Hospital on August 26, 2023, at the age of 80.
Jim was born on December 30, 1942, in Kingston, Ontario. He attended high school at QECVI where, at a football game, he met the love of his life, Sharon Marie Grant. After high school Jim attended Eastern Ontario Institute of Technology in Ottawa where upon graduation in 1964, he was hired by Brock Tel (Automatic Electric/Microtel) and moved to Brockville. Sharon joined Jim in Brockville in 1966 following their wedding. Jim worked for Brock Tel for much of his career before working with Parks Canada in Smiths Falls for the final 10 years of his career before his retirement in 2001.
He was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed everything from downhill skiing in his younger years to swimming, snowmobiling, playing his guitar by the campfire and spending time with his family on their boat on the local waterways. He was a man that could not sit still and could always be found “puttering” around the house. He was the go-to “fix it guy” for friends and family as he always had the knowledge, creativity, and tools to fix anything anyone had that needed repair.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Sharon, and his two children: Quintin (Gina Maggio) and Kathy. He is predeceased by his parents Austin and Doris, and his brother George. He will be fondly remembered by his brother Bob (Anne), sister-in-law Valerie (late Bob) Bennet and brother-in-law Dennis (late Patricia) Grant. Jim will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.
A private interment will take place at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James St. E., Brockville. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Salvation Army or the Brockville General Hospital Palliative Care Program and would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
