Jim (Aurele James) Belliveau, of Lower Coverdale, formerly of
Sunny-Brae, NB., passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on
Tuesday, April 25, 2023. Born in Moncton, he was the son of the late
Aurele and Patricia (Ryan) Belliveau.
Kind, caring, committed, and dedicated, Jim will forever be
in the hearts of those he loved. He is survived by his wife Kathy
Belliveau; son, Kevin Belliveau (Stevi); sister, Janice LeBlanc
(Jake); brother, Jean Paul (JP) Belliveau (Linda); sister-in-law
Roxanne MacDonald (Garnet) and brother-in-law John Speller (Sherry);
stepmother Eva (Richardson) Belliveau; from his previous marriage,
son, Jason Belliveau (Shelley); grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts,
uncles, cousins and step siblings.
Jim was a retiree of the Canadian National Railway after a
53-year career beginning as a Machinist, followed by working in the
Transportation Department as a Weights & Scale Inspector. He
served as the CAW’s Local Chair and as a member of the
National Executive of the CAW. Jim was often called upon to apply his
expertise as a mediator and negotiator for many years including
following his retirement.
He was a minor baseball coach and a competitive bowler with
the Moncton Ponchos team. In addition to
being an avid golfer, Jim held the positions of secretary and Club
Captain at the Moncton Golf & Country Club.
Jim was a Past President of Moncton
Curler’s Association, who had curled competitively at the
provincial level his team, once being runner-up at the Provincial
Men’s Curling Championship; was an accredited instructor;
coached MHS curling teams and was a member of the Silver Broom
Committee when BC’s Rick Folk won the world title here at
the coliseum.
He was an active member of the Riverview Lions Club having
served as President, Secretary as well as devoting his time to various
positions at the club and District levels. His passions included
making a difference in the lives of others, to see everyone succeed
and was always helping in any capacity either by utilizing his
leadership skills or in a supporting role. Jim was recognized on many
occasions for this dedication, commitment, and outstanding service by
being presented with awards which included a Melvin Jones Fellowship
through Lions International; a Life Membership, Fellowship and Judge
Brian Stevenson awards through the Lions Foundation of Canada; as well
as several Lions of Year and President Appreciation awards. He also
served as a director on the Lions Sick Children’s
Fund.
During his lifetime, Jim has impacted many lives through his
inner strength, dignity, perseverance, and courage, enriching the
lives of so many.
The family wishes to express immense gratitude to Dr. Jamie
Stewart and their heartfelt appreciation to the number of medical
staff and professionals who provided care to Jim during his stay at
the 4600, 4100, 4400 and 3400 units at the Moncton
Hospital.
A Lions Memorial and Candlelight Service remembering Lion Jim
Belliveau will be held at Riverview Lions Club, 701 Coverdale Rd.
Sunday, April 30, 2023 at 2:00 pm.
Following that, a Celebration of Life gathering for Jim will
be held with family and friends from 2:30 to 5:30pm at the Riverview
Lions Club.
Donations in Jim’s memory can be made to the Lions
Foundation of Canada Dog Guides in support of their facility (Capital
Campaign) or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be
appreciated by the family.
