Lilian Louisa Jean Birkett (nee Loader)
1923-2022
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jean who was celebrating her 100th year. She passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 29, 2022.
Jean was the cornerstone of her Toronto home at Hopewell and Locksley Avenue, where she resided for over 65 years. You could always find Jean tending to her lovely flower garden, where she particularly adored her roses. Jean loved to sit in her backyard and always had an extra chair available for anyone who was walking by. She could often be found chatting over the fence with one of her neighbours as they were walking their dogs and giving them an abundance of dog cookies.
Jean loved her time working at Random House of Canada before she took her retirement in 1988. She was an avid reader and you could be sure to find a pile of books around the house. After her retirement, she fell in love with travelling. She travelled by trains, planes and automobiles and was no stranger to taking a trip through to the United States in her motor-home or travelling by plane to visit her family and friends all across Canada. She made many friends along the way, but her real passion was her family.
Jean was a loving mother to William ‘Bill’ Brunette (Kelly), Michael Birkett (Joyce), and the late Gloria Partridge. She was adored by her grandchildren Wendy (Randy), Penny (Larry), Pamela (Randy), Clay (Kerry), and Wade (Patricia). She was a great grandmother to Dawn, Kevin, Travis, Brandon, Shannon, Gavin, Ryan, Jacob, Lochlyn, Wallace, and Eleanor. Her legacy does not stop there, as she also was a great great grandmother to Peyton, Jacob, Patrick, and Lincoln.
She is predeceased by her husband John ‘Poppa’ Birkett, brothers Harold Loader and Stanley Loader. Survived by her brother Gerold ‘Gerry’ Loader and sister Joyce Leary.
Thera Ehn will deeply miss her Granny. She is lovingly remembered by Judy Brunette and her dear friend Ruth Roehrig. Her extended family will also feel a void, Heather, Sophie, Andrew, Taelor and boys.
Please join us as we celebrate her beautiful life.
