JANZEN, Jacob

Jake Janzen’s life was marked by selflessness, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to follow God and to serve others. He was born in Coaldale, Alberta and grew up on a farm in Rutland, just outside of Kelowna. It was there that he learned the values that would shape his life – hard work, honesty, and a deep love for his family and community.
As an elementary school principal in various schools in Penticton, Jake was a confident leader who always put the needs of his students first. He had a gift for bringing people together and creating a sense of unity and purpose, both in his professional and personal life. Jake’s commitment to service extended beyond the classroom, as he volunteered with the Mennonite Central Committee both at home and abroad. He and his family even moved to Brazil for two years to work at Pan American Christian Academy (with MB Missions & Services). His selflessness and dedication to making a difference in the world was truly remarkable. One of Jake’s proudest accomplishments was co-founding the Mwanza Project, which supported orphans in need. This was just one of many examples of his deep compassion and commitment to helping others.
Jake was a man of many interests and hobbies. He loved playing games, woodworking, traveling to off-the-beaten-path places (on 5 continents), riding his motorcycle, going for hikes, and spending time with his family and friends. He had a great sense of humor and was always up for a good laugh.
But above all else, Jake’s love for his family was unmatched. He was always there for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, offering words of counsel and acts of service whenever they needed it. His love and devotion to his wife Jeanne was a true testament to the power of a lifelong partnership built on trust, respect, and mutual admiration.
Jake enjoyed many years of good health, but was unfortunately diagnosed with cancer in his final years. Throughout this difficult journey, he displayed incredible courage and determination, fighting with all his might to overcome the illness.
Jake is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Jeanne, who was his partner in life and in all of his endeavors. He was a devoted husband who cherished his wife and their life together. He is also survived by his children Cyndy Loewen (Mark), Connie Falk (Al), and Stephen Janzen (Ashelyn). His legacy lives on through his 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren who will always remember him as a caring and fun-loving grandfather. Grandchildren: Tiera Reed (Ken), Jake Loewen (Juliana), Caleb Loewen (Amanda), Connor Loewen (Vanessa), Andrea Lester (Nathan), Mark Falk, Sara Falk, Aaliyah Janzen, and Dexton Janzen. Great Grandchildren: Benjamin, Asher, and Nathan (Loewen), Mira, Lucy, and Trey (Reed). Jake was also survived by his siblings Rudy (Gladys) Janzen, Albert (Clara) Janzen, David (Carol) Janzen, and many extended family members.
Though our hearts may ache with sadness, we can find solace in our faith and the knowledge that Jake has found eternal rest in the arms of God. Let us celebrate his life, his legacy, and the love he shared with us, and may his memory continue to inspire us all.
