It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of James (Jim) Edward Groves on April 17, 2023, at the age of 73 due to sudden illness.
Jim was born January 5, 1950, in Toronto, Ontario and moved to Collingwood in 1976 after marrying Janet Sasaki. Jim established himself as a self-employed carpenter and worked diligently for his family and community for over 45 years. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and was a soldier for the unborn. Above all Jim was a man of great faith who loved and served the Lord and his family in great humility to the very end.
Jim will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his unrelenting puns, his keen sense for beauty, and the best and warmest hugs.
Jim will be sorely missed by his beloved wife Janet of 49 years, and by his daughters Lora, Christa (Shane Wilson), Jenny (Kevin Kaye), Becca (Davide Perrone), and his son David (Tereza Groves), as well as his grandchildren: Ruby, Emma, Olivia, Ben, Emily, Rachel, Noah, Micah, and Levi (and more on the way). It cannot be overstated that Jim’s children and family were the absolute pride and joy of his life.
Jim is also survived by his sister Bonnie (Neil Hunter), his countless nieces and nephews, cousins, and extended family. He is pre-deceased by his parents George and Jean Groves, as well as his brother Alex (Marilyn Groves) and his grandson Ezra.
A visitation will take place on Monday, April 24th at Fawcett Funeral Home in Collingwood from 6-8pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday, April 25th at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Collingwood at 10:30am, followed by burial and reception. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to ShareLife ShareLife.org if desired.
