March 13, 1933 – July 9, 2023
James Boyd passed away peacefully in his 91st year. He is survived by his wife, Eileen, his daughter Elizabeth (Scott Meredith), son Jim and his grandson, Cameron Meredith. He also leaves his brothers, Art Boyd and John Walker and their families. Jim was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and attended Methodist College Belfast and then Oxford University where he read classics at St. John’s College. After graduating from Oxford, Jim set out to see the world, intending to settle in Australia. According to family lore, when he stopped in Toronto, he ran into an old friend who persuaded him to stay because his rugby team needed a fly half. Jim lived for many years in Toronto and Aurora with his first wife and children, but in his fifties, adventure called again, and he moved to the United States. While living in Chicago he met Eileen, and they spent many happy years together in Chicago and Toronto. Jim’s health unfortunately declined in his last few years. His family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Salvation Army’s Isabel and Arthur Meighan Manor for the excellent care Jim received in his final years. A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 17, 11:30 a.m. in the Chapel at Morley Bedford 159 Eglinton Avenue West, Toronto. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Isabel and Arthur Meighen Manor would be appreciated.
