Jacqueline “Jackie”
Grace (Ross) Davis – Truro
Jackie, a beautiful lady, beloved
mum, Nana, sister, aunt, neighbour and friend, peacefully passed away
with family by her side on Sunday, February 12, 2023 in Colchester
East Hants Health Centre. Jackie was born and raised in Bible Hill and
was the youngest daughter of the late Jack and Mae (Wilson) Ross. She
lived and grew up on 55 Pictou Road with her parents and three
sisters.
As a very young woman, Mum worked
at the Belvedere restaurant/hotel on Prince Street where she met John
Davis, her former husband. They lived on Shannon Drive in Truro for
several decades while raising three children. Mum believed Jesus
Christ was her Lord and Savior, enjoyed reading His word, singing
songs (Old Rugged Cross and Amazing Grace) and reading her
God Calling
book.
Self-care was important and she
took great pride in her overall health while exercising and walking
the streets of Truro with her friend and neighbour, Ann Hepburn. For
many years, Mum attended Yoga classes and dances in surrounding
communities. She loved music (Elvis) and dancing (jive, polka and
waltz). Mum was often found walking in stiletto heels around Mic Mac
Mall or at home in the kitchen while making spanish rice, spaghetti,
sweet & sour spare ribs, pineapple and Queen Elizabeth squares
and butterscotch pie; this being at the top of her
children’s favorites. Mum was a woman of her time and
enjoyed the styles of her day, stiletto heels, thick black eyeliner,
big hair (the beehive too), Chanel No. 5 and the words “buy
quality” were her signature trademarks. She was a beautiful
woman! Mum enjoyed filling her window boxes with colorful arrangements
of impatiens and creeping charlie as the exterior focal points of her
home. Inside, she enjoyed experimenting with and incorporating a mix
of current trends and classic design elements. She believed in making
her “little housie” a beautiful place where her children
could return to their childhood home and where others gathered and
were welcomed to visit, cook and laugh together. She was always ready
to chat and have tea or coffee when the garage door was rolled up. She
was the center and rock of our family!
Jackie enjoyed traveling throughout
Canada and the USA. She watched Dr. Phil daily and flew to
California to be a part of his live studio audience. Eating chips, ice
cream and hot fudge sundaes in the middle of the night, while standing
by the kitchen sink or while watching Oprah and the Bachelor were
regular events.
Mum valued education and always
encouraged her children to be life-long learners. Jackie served others
at the Arcade Ladies Shop, Reitman’s, Super Store and Sobeys
and she always had a kind word for new and old friends alike. She
enjoyed life into her eighties and was always up for a good
laugh!
Besides her parents, she was
predeceased by her sisters, Catherine Langille and Francis Claire
Rector; sons, Johnny Davis Jr. and James Davis (September
2022).
She is survived by son, Alan Davis
(Gigi) and grandson, Jackson, Hermosa Beach, CA.; daughter, Stacey
(Chuck) Vickery and grandchildren, K-Lani Rae, Reese and Connor,
Navarre Beach, Florida; daughters-in-Love, JoAnne, Port Hawkesbury,
(grandchildren, Christopher, Jamie and Melissa); Suzanne, Calgary,
Alberta, (grandsons Riley and Cash). Jackie is also survived by her
sister, Sylvia Hennigar and nieces, Kim Langille, Donna Rector, Denise
Patriquin; nephews, Dale, Glen, Darrell, David, Steven Hennigar and
Kevin Langille.
Many thanks to nearby family and
friends who have loved and cared for Mum including her niece, Kim
Langille and very dear friends Gloria Baker, Tessa Davidson, Elaine
and many others. You all have been amazing! Many thanks for the
special care from nurses Janet, Martha and Danielle in the Palliative
Care Unit at the Colchester East Hants Health
Center.
Arrangements have been entrusted to
Mattatall-Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Graveside
service and interment will be held in July 2023 at Crossroads
Cemetery, Valley. A Celebration of Life will follow at
Jackie’s home on Shannon Drive, Truro. More details to
follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations will

Scars in
Heaven
If I had only known the last time
would be the last time
I would’ve put off all the things I had
to do
I
would’ve stayed a little longer, held on a little
tighter
Now what I’d give for one more day with
you
‘Cause there’s a wound here in my heart
where something’s missing
And they tell me that it’s gonna heal
with time
But I know you’re in a place where all
your wounds have been erased
And knowing yours are healed is healing
mine
The only scars in heaven, they
won’t belong to me and you
There’ll be no such thing as broken, and
all the old will be made new
And the thought that makes me smile now,
even as the tears fall down
Is that the only scars in heaven are on
the hands that hold you now
I know the road you walked was
anything but easy
You picked up your share of scars along
the way
Oh, but now you’re standing in the sun,
you’ve fought your fight and your race is
run
The
pain is all a million miles away
Hallelujah, for the hands that hold
you now
There’s not a day goes by that I
don’t see you
You live on in all the better parts of
me
Until
I’m standing with you in the sun, I’ll fight this fight and this race
I’ll run
Until I finally see what you can
see
The only scars in heaven, they
won’t belong to me and you
There’ll be no such thing as broken, and
all the old will be made new
And the thought that makes me smile now,
even as the tears fall down
Is that the only scars in heaven are on
the hands that hold you now

Crowns
