PERKINS, Jack Murray – In his 94th year, passed away peacefully at PRHC on Wednesday, July 19th, 2023. Predeceased by his wife Vivian (Pruden). Loving Father of Cory (Lauri), Grandfather to Troy, and Dallas (Emily). Great Grandfather to Cameron, Liam, and Alla. Son of the late Harold and Lois (Glackin), Predeceased by his sister Betty (Trevor) and his brother Larry. Loving remembered by his dear friend Karen Brown. Throughout his life Jack had a passion for reading, fishing, hunting and enjoying the peaceful sounds of nature at the cottage. Throughout Jack’s life he could be recognized by is smile and quick wit. He could be counted on for a kind word for that needed it or a helping hand when needed. In business Jack retired from Construction after participating in key programs to refit Youngs Point Lock, Lakefield Bridge, Peterborough Square and Trent University Sport Complex. His final job was on Ontario Power Generations Darlington Nuclear Generating Station and being there when Unit 2 went critical for the first time. Following retirement Jack and Vivian started their next venture in the used book business. When they started Books and Things on Water Street, they were the new kids on the block in a cluster of four other used book stores but their drive and good nature made their place a favorite stop for avid readers. You were always greeted with a smile and good conversation. His passing is a loss to the community, however through his philanthropy Jack was able to touch many lives and hearts. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. As per Jacks wishes a celebration of life will follow soon.
