Beswetherick Jack (John)
January 16, 1930 – April 3, 2023
Jack left us the evening of April 3, at the age of 93 years. He leaves his wife of 66 years Dorothy, son Ted (Jodi) Beswetherick, brothers in law George (Joan), Don (Joann), Dennis (Lyn), Grandchildren Shawn, Nathan, Chris, Paul, Kurt, Great Grandchildren Hadrian, Theran, Darius and many Nieces and Nephews. Jack was predeceased by his daughter Sherry, parents Wilbert and Laura, and siblings Wilbert (Bill), Ted, Edith (Deedee), Katherine (Kay), Charlotte (Lottie), Harriet, Annie, and Barbara.
Jack was born in New Liskeard, Ontario on January 16, 1930, the family eventually found their way to Kirkland Lake, Ontario. Jack had to leave school at a young age and started working for an old prospector in the Kirkland Lake area at the age of 14. When old enough Jack eventually started work in one of the Kirkland Lake gold mines. In 1950 disaster struck and the Kirkland Lake pool hall burnt down (so the story goes) and with the onslaught of the Korean war Jack and a few buddies decided to join the RCAF. A few years down the road Jack was posted to Winnipeg and was introduced to Dorothy. Jack and Dorothy married November 10, 1956. After postings in Portage La Prairie, back to Winnipeg, Cold Lake, Baden Baden (Germany), back to Winnipeg again, then Edmonton where he retired after 42 years of service. Jack and Dorothy spent their retirement years in Kelowna then moved to Olds in 2001 to be closer to family and the new Grandkids. Jack and Dorothy spent many retirement winters in Arizona.
Jack enjoyed a very active life golfing, curling, camping, hiking and especially spending time with family and friends. Jack was also always up for the annual battered ball golf tournament with the brothers in law (lefties vs righties), they managed to keep the tournament going for 40 years playing the last round September 2021. Jack could play 18 holes of golf when he was 90 years old and would walk most of the course. Jack was always up for a happy hour beer or glass of wine. So, when you are playing a round of golf, camping, or curling, please think of Jack when you are telling the stories of the day, raise a glass and toast to Jack.
The family would like to thank Dr. Gert Nel and the fantastic staff at the Olds Hospital for their respect and care. Jack mentioned several times how well everyone was treating him.
In lieu of flowers please provide a service for someone in need or make a donation to the Salvation Army. Heartland Funeral Services Ltd., Olds entrusted with the arrangements. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed at www.heartlandfuneralservices.com
