Isobel Mae Miller (nee Hardonk), mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother went to her heavenly home to be with her Lord and Saviour and to be reunited with the love of her life, Robert on January 11, 2023 in Black Diamond, AB at the age of 87.
Isobel was born in Calgary to Martinus and Catherine (Macmillan) Hardonk July 1, 1935. She was the youngest of 6 children, her father passed away 6 months before she was born.
She lived in Calgary until she was 16 and then she hired on as domestic help/nanny for the Tom & Marjorie Hughes family Southwest of Longview. She enjoyed her job but then she caught the eye of a young farmer who lived just South of Longview. That was the end of her “paid” position of domestic help as she married Robert Gray Miller on June 20, 1953. Together they farmed, raised cattle and 6 children. They lived on that farm for the next 68 years.
Isobel loved the Lord and had a deep and steadfast faith in Him that continued right up until her death. She loved Robert and her family and was very protective of them (even from each other).
She enjoyed painting and photography and one of her favourite things to do was to drive through the Kananaskis, stopping and taking pictures wherever it took her fancy. She could look at a photograph she had taken decades earlier and tell you when and where she had taken it. Robert and Isobel spent 26 winters as snowbirds in Arizona where she took up many activities; ceramics, lapidary and billiards to name a few.
She is survived by her 6 children and their spouses: Robert (Linda) Miller, Gordon Miller, Ken Miller, Janette (Daniel) Fehr, David (Maureen) Miller, Kathryn (Jeffrey) Reimer, 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
As a family we would like to extend our sincere thanks to the doctors and nursing staff at the Rising Sun, Black Diamond for their compassionate care.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the High River Baptist Church. The service will also be live-streamed and can be viewed on Isobel’s tribute page at www.lylereeves.com
