Tsiobanos: Ilias
Peacefully surrounded by his family at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Saturday June 17th, 2023, at the age of 73 years. Beloved father of Bill (Nancy), Jennifer (Stephen) and John (Hanna). Beloved Grandfather of Nicholas, Stephanie, Alexandros, Alyssa, Ashtyn, Julia, Cheyenne, Brendon, Makayla and Freja. Survived by his brothers Nicholas (Christine) and Paul (Vicki). Ilias will be lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
A visitation will be held at the DeStefano Funeral Home 1289 Keith Ross Drive in Oshawa (905) 440 3595 on Wednesday June 21st from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Nedela Macedonian Orthodox Church, 485 Bayly Street West, Ajax on Thursday June 22nd at 10:30am. Interment will follow at Groveside Cemetery in Whitby.

I am truly saddened to hear about Ilias sudden death. I met him about a dozen times over the past 2 years at the GV. There is a nearly daily morning coffee ritual, of what i humorously refer to as the “Old Greek Wise Men Club”, of which I am an honorary member by birthright/decent.
The first time I met him, at the GV for coffee club, he was extremely kind, well spoken, intelligent, and a pleasure to be around. When I left with my father, he reached out to shake my hand, and I remember him saying to me “you’re welcome to come for coffee anytime. Its good to have some differing opinion, than these old guys.” Ha! I left that he truly meant it (the welcome part… I think) and, with that invitation, I made every effort to go for coffee when I could. When I attended coffee club, I hoped to see Ilias, and looked forward to our conversations. He often would ask about my work and told me a little about his life. The movie days.
My father is a regular attendee of the coffee club and attended the visitation. I wish i could have attended myself. My mom too met Ilias and is shocked. She said he was so thankful and kind to her and that he loved my moms baked desserts and cookies.
My condolences to Ilias’ family. I wish i had one more coffee with him.
