Ian Allan Wright
February 3, 1957 – January 5, 2023
Ian Allan Wright passed away January 5, 2023, age 65 years.
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our dear father, brother, granddad. Ian has now joined his beloved wife, Mary, parents James and Nan, and parents-in-law Roy and Nellie O’Brien. Cherished memories and much love will be forever in the hearts of his son Ian Brien (Patricia), grandchildren Caitlin and Brien, brothers Don (Glenna), Sandy, nephew Lee (Nicky), in-laws whom he regarded as his second family Dorothy (Walter Milley), Maureen (Ted Rowe) Gord (Rhonda), Roy (Deanna) Anna (Gerry Tapper), and many nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and grand nephews.
Born in Streetsville, Ontario, in 1957, Ian moved to Topsail Pond, Paradise, as a teen. In his youth, he and his brothers Don and Sandy spent time enjoying the outdoors – camping, water sports and basically all activities involving boats, bikes, and anything with wheels. They were often spotted doing karate on the front lawn, or chasing their Newfoundland dog “Rolf” down the road or out into the pond. It was at Topsail Pond at the age of 16 years old that Ian met the love of his life, Mary, and together they enjoyed 50 years of marriage and friendship until Mary’s passing in 2020. They raised their son, Ian Brien, with much love and affection. They possessed a great appreciation for nature and spent much of their free time camping, hunting and fishing. Ian was very creative by nature and enjoyed photography, artwork, carpentry and especially woodworking. He was fascinated with science and biology and he loved to take on a project or experiment. When Ian Brien and his wife Patricia extended the Wright family with grandkids Caitlin and Brien, Ian and Mary took on the role of grandparents, or as the kids referred to them, Sammy and Granddad. Ian loved spending time watching science and nature shows with them, or growing enormous pumpkins for them for Halloween. Ian spent many years working with the provincial government as a career counsellor and skills assessor, helping many clients to establish their personal career or education path. Ian retired in 2017.
Funeral Service to take place from Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road on Monday, January 9, 2023 at 11 a.m. with inurnment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
We will always remember his quiet presence, and his powerful love for Mary and his family. Rest in peace.
