Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Henry Lensworth Totten announces his death which occurred on September 21, 2023, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Grove Hill, NB, on June 4, 1934, he was the son of the late George and Mildred (Allaby) Totten.
Henry spent his life in Saint John, where he dedicated 31 years of his career as a heavy equipment operator for the City of Saint John. Henry will be remembered not only for his numerous passions and hobbies but also for his kind and humble nature that touched the hearts of all who knew him. Henry’s love for the outdoors was evident in his many interests. Aside from being an avid bowler and cribbage player, Henry could often be found hunting, exploring the great outdoors on his trusty four-wheeler, and had a passion for gardening.
Despite his many talents and interests, Henry was known for his humility and quiet demeanor. He was a man of few words but spoke volumes through his actions. His willingness to go above and beyond for those he cared for, and his selfless nature made him a pillar of his circle of family and friends. Whether it was lending a helping hand, offering a kind word, or simply being there for those in need, Henry’s presence was a source of comfort and strength. Henry also possessed a quick wit and a dry sense of humor that often caught people off guard in the most delightful way. He had a knack for delivering punchlines with impeccable timing, leaving us in stitches with his unexpected quips. Whether it was a sly remark during a cribbage game or a clever retort at a family gathering, Henry’s humor was a testament to his sharp intellect and his ability to find laughter in life’s everyday moments. His jokes and jests were like hidden gems and were a cherished part of his personality that will forever be treasured and fondly remembered.
Henry is survived by his loving wife: Marie Totten (Bonner); children: Kevin Totten of Norton, Barry Totten (Alison O’Brien) of Quispamsis, Lori Totten (Terrence Childs) and Craig (Kate) Totten of Chelsea, QC; sisters: Irene Boucher (the late Edward) of Saint John, NB, Etta Jones (the late Clarence) of Otter Lake, NB and Louise Smith (the late Raymond) of Hampton, NB; grandchildren: Megan, Mark, Brooke, Jackie, Courtney, Henry, and Harper; great-grandchildren: Abby and Gracie; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Henry was predeceased by first wife Dora (nee Campbell); son: Brian Totten; brother: Frank Totten (the late Marie), and sisters: Shirley Bradley (the late James) and Audrey Lowe (the late Jimmy).
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424) with visitation being held on Monday, September 25, 2023, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Funeral Service will take place in the Fundy chapel on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at 10 a.m. Interment will be held at Ocean Memorial Gardens.
