Henry Giesbrecht, 92, of Abbotsford, B.C. passed away peacefully in his home, into
the presence of his Lord and Saviour, on June 2, 2023.
Henry was born in the Amur region of Russia on November 10, 1930, and lived most of
his childhood in the village of NeuShoensee, Ukraine. His parents were Henry and
Neta Giesbrecht. His siblings: Agnes (Neufeld), Helen (Hiebert), Mary (Baerg), Peter,
Jake (d), and John.
The family fled to Germany as refugees during World War II, and immigrated to
Canada when Henry was 18 years old, settling in the Abbotsford area. He was
baptized on June 21, 1953 in the Peardonville Mennonite Church. Henry had several
jobs before moving to Vancouver to work at the Buckerfields feed company.
While in Vancouver he met Annie Martens. They married in 1955, and in 1961 they
moved to Abbotsford where Henry spent the rest of his working life farming, mostly
growing raspberries. He also worked in construction building barns. The family
attended Eben-Ezer Mennonite Church where Henry spent many years as an usher.
He lived out his retirement years in Clearbrook, and volunteered at M.C.C. Throughout
his life he was known for his generosity, gratefulness and contentment.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Annie, and his children: Elsie (Herb) Ens,
Mary Giesbrecht, Anne (George) Sawatzky, Henry Giesbrecht, and Frank Giesbrecht,
along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
