Henry “Douglas” Clinch
1943-2023
The passing of Henry “Douglas” Clinch, husband of
the late Dorothy “Eileen” (Brown) Clinch, occurred at the
Grand Manan Hospital, Grand Manan NB on April 17, 2023. Born in Saint
John NB on August 5, 1943, he was a son of the late William Clinch and
Bessie McLean. A loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and
brother, Doug will be greatly missed by his children William
“Billy” Clinch (Amy Gaddas), Ian Clinch (Cantrese), Todd
Clinch (Stacey) and Tina Wilkinson (David); many grandchildren and
great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In
addition to his parents and his wife of 59 years, Eileen, Doug was
predeceased by one grandson: Warren Chandler.
Prior to retirement, Doug worked hard as a fisherman and also
did construction work with E.C. Dakins & Son Construction, the
Department of Transportation, and also was employed with Griffin
& Sons Concrete. In his retirement years he spent many hours
working at his hobby, working in his woodshop building many projects.
Whether it was for family or friends or items for donations to
fundraisers, when driving around the island it is very common to spot
one of his finished projects in someone’s yard. Doug also
enjoyed his daily drives “around the block” as he called it,
and stopped from time to time to say a friendly hello to those he met
along the way.
Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home
(755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB. Resting at the Immanuel
Family Church, Grand Manan NB with visiting on Wednesday from 2-4 and
6-8 pm. The service will be held at the church on Thursday at 1:00 pm
followed by the interment in the Maple Grove Cemetery. In
Doug’s memory, donations to a charity of the
donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
