Henricus (Henk) Gerardus Boersen, age 84, passed away peacefully at home on April 7, 2023 with his family by his side. Born in Stoutenburg, The Netherlands, son of the late Ysbrand and Adrianna Boersen.
Henk, along with his parents and siblings, immigrated to Canada in 1951 to pursue the family’s dream of farming. The Boersen family created a dairy farm just north of Stratford. In 1963, Henk married the love of his life, Emma. Together they took over the family farm and raised 4 children. His passion of farming continued to his final days and he is proud that the tradition lives on. Henks’ hobbies included horses, bocce ball in Florida, travel and time with family building beautiful memories.
Beloved husband for 59 years of Emma (Terpstra). Loving father of Dianne Brekelmans (Francis), Roger (Dawne), Janice Danen (Chris), Kim Boersen-Gladman (Jeff). Grandfather of Travis (Kristen), Calvin (Maria), Tanya, Leah (Alec), Krista (Cole), Adam (Megan), Alex (Clara), Nicholas, Mitchel, Adriana, Sydney, Mackenzie and Papa Henk to Jillian, Remy and Leo. Brother of Gerry, Aleida Vlasman, Annie Bokkers. Brother-in-law to Judy, Ann, Liz and Viola Boersen, Julie VanBakel (Martin), Nick Terpstra (Catherine), Herman Terpstra (Rosemary), Joe Terpstra (Miriam), Joanne DeBrabandere, Mike, Hennie and Catherine Terpstra.
Predeceased by siblings John, Bert, Tony, Johan, Ted (Martina), Dora Olsthoorn (Adrian), Betty Gras (Andre), Joan Oud (Peter), sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Renelda, Peter Bokkers, Joe Vlasman, Margaret Van Nes (Bill), Ben, Charlie, Helen Terpstra, and Patricia Armstrong.
Visitation will be held at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Tuesday, April 11, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Parish Prayers will be offered at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church, 96 Huron Street, Stratford on Wednesday, April 12, at 11 a.m. Interment at Avondale Cemetery.
