HELENA SOLTYS
MARCH 12, 1937 – JUNE 23, 2023
Helena Soltys (Age: 86) – A Beloved Matriarch and Pillar of the Polish Community
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Helena Soltys, a loving Zona, Mama, Babcia, Siostra and Ciocia. Helena went z Bogiem on June 23, 2023, surrounded by her devoted family.
Helena was born on March 12, 1937, in Jaroslaw Poland. She immigrated to Winnipeg in 1961. She worked as a talented Seamstress at the Stall Sewing Factory. She helped friends obtain employment at the same factory when they first came to Canada. In 1965, she helped sponsor her Mom, Dad and Brother to come to Canada. This led way to many cousins, nieces and nephews being given the opportunity to come to Canada. She met the love of her life, Stanislaw, and they embarked on a beautiful journey together, sharing their lives for 55 years. Helena and Stanislaw built a strong foundation of love, respect, and faith, serving as an inspiration to their children and grandchildren.
Helena will forever be remembered as a dedicated mother to her son, Walter, and daughter Krystyna. Her love and guidance were unwavering, and she instilled in them the values of family, hard work and compassion. Helena was an integral part of her extended family. She maintained strong connections with her nieces and nephews, both in Winnipeg and Poland. Her presence brought warmth, love and humour to family gatherings. The importance of carrying on Polish Traditions and Culture were evident especially during Easter and Christmas. Helena had a special talent for baking & cooking. Her homemade treats were legendary, and she delighted family and friends with her delectable creations. Her home and kitchen were always open and filled with the comforting aroma of freshly baked pastries, and traditional Polish dishes, reminding all who visited of her hospitality, love & generosity. You would never leave hungry or empty handed.
Helena’s vibrant spirit and unwavering faith were evident in her active involvement within the Polish community. She supported and volunteered extensively with SPK Iskry Polish dance ensemble. She was their biggest cheerleader and inspired many generations to also take this tradition. She loved showcasing her passion for Polish culture and heritage through their traditions. Helena also found solace and strength as a long-time member of the Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church. Her devotion to her faith and community shone brightly.
As a Babcia, she adored her grandchildren, Austin and Stefanie. She treasured every moment spent with them, filling their lives with laughter, unconditional love and sharing her love of baking and cooking.
Helena will be deeply missed by her beloved husband, Stanislaw, her children, Walter Soltys and Krystyna (Vrad) Vodrazka, her grandchildren Austin and Stefanie, her brother John (Irena) Rarog, sister-in law Zofia Rarog. She will also be affectionately remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends both in Canada, U.S.A, Poland & France.
She was predeceased by her parents Augustyn & Stefania Rarog, sister Zofia & brother in-law Stefan Porczek (of Poland), brother Adam Rarog, nephews Mieczyslaw Porczek & Marek Wojcik along with numerous sisters & brothers in-laws on the Soltys side.
Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her, but her legacy of love, kindness, community involvement & faith will live on. As we grieve her loss, let us also celebrate the remarkable life of Helena, honouring her memory by cherishing our loved ones and embracing the values she held dear .
May her soul find eternal peace, and may her family and friends find solace in the cherished memories her legacy leaves behind.
Special thanks to her son Walter for all his hard work and care with Mama ensuring she was well looked after. Also thanks given to Dr. Kreml, The Dialysis Unit at Seven Oaks General Hospital, along with many friends and family who helped care for her over these last years.

The Broken Chain
We little knew that day,
God was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly,
In death, we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you.
You did not go alone.
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.
You left us beautiful memories,
Your love is still our guide.
And although we cannot see you,
You are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken,
And nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again.
