Helen “Lina” Wrona (Deiulis)
The family announces with great sorrow her passing at the Timmins and District Hospital on Monday, September 25th, 2023 – just four days shy of her 83rd birthday. Loving mother of Corinna, mother-in-law of Dave McLaughlin, and grandmother of Evan. Predeceased by her beloved husband Marian (“Manue”) Wrona, parents Mafalda and Paolo Deiulis, brother Vince Deiulis (Marie) and sister Yolanda Troiani (Umberto).
Born Elena Maria Deiulis in 1940 to immigrants from Abruzzo, Italy, Helen was known as “Lina” to Italians in Timmins, and “Helen” to everyone else. During her younger years, Helen worked various positions at the Bank of Montreal, but changed her life path once meeting her Polish prince, Manue. In sickness and in health, they spent 54 loving years together. At the expense of her own health, mom took loving care of dad until the day he died. Mom was very proud of her Italian heritage, and delighted in creating sumptuous Italian meals for her entire family. Known for her kindness to all, no one left mom’s home hungry, or empty-handed. Helen was a lifetime member of the Porcupine Dante Club, and lifetime parishioner of Sacred Heart Church.
A huge thank-you to all of the staff at the Porcupine Lake Unit of Extendicare who cared for mom – please know that she loved you all, and appreciated everything you did for her (we do too). Special thanks to Ginette and Tracy for the extra care given as she was being rushed to hospital. Sincere thanks as well to the staff of the trauma and critical care units at Timmins and District Hospital. Mom would have also wanted to thank her longtime family doctor Julie Samson for the utmost of care she received through the years. Our hearts are truly broken but we are comforted by the fact that mom has now been reunited with her husband and family.
Funeral mass will be held at 11am on Monday, October 2nd, 2023 at Sacred Heart Church (Fr. John Lemire officiating). Remembrance donations to the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation or masses at Sacred Heart Church would be greatly appreciated. The family will receive friends from 2-4pm on Sunday, October 1st 2023 at the Miron-Wilson Funeral Home, Cremation and Reception Centre, 150 Balsam St. S., Timmins.
