SMITH: Helen Doreen (nee Donohue) – passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at the Brantford General Hospital, Simcoe. Doreen Smith of Port Rowan in her 89th year.
Beloved wife of the late Gordon Smith who predeceased her in 1995. Loving mother of the late Brian (1963), the late Debora (2023) & husband Bruce Ferguson of Simcoe, the late Linda (2011) & husband Mark Van Den Eeckhout of Walsingham, the late Gary Smith (2020) and Sandra Smith (Doug Bouck) of Walsingham. Sadly missed by her grandchildren Jennifer (Neil) Dietrich, Jeff Ferguson, Ashley (Jeff) Wulleman, Brandi Smith, Lisa (Steve) McKibbon, Vanessa Van Den Eeckhout, Michael Skuce, Michelle (Scott) Hayes and great grandchildren Claira, Bryce, Avalee, Charlie, Abby, Cole, Ethan, Brayden, Carson, Jackson, Lauren and Benjamin. Survived by her sisters Mary Lou Thomas (Dave) of London, Paul & Edith Donohue and Richard Donohue all of Vanessa.
Predeceased by her parents Edwin & Elsie (Whitehead) Donohue, grandson Nicholas (1988), sister Shirley & Joe Komienski, brother-in-law Dave Thomas and sister-in-law Judy Donohue.
Doreen was a longtime volunteer at the Port Rowan Thrift Store and the Norfolk General Hospital. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League, the Port Rowan Ladies Auxillary and the Red Hat Society.
Relatives and friends will be received in the Jeffrey W. Glendinning Funeral Home, 36 Front St. Port Rowan on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 from 6-8pm and on Thursday, August 3, 2023 from 11am -12 noon Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Langton on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at 1:00pm. Interment to follow in Sacred Heart R.C. Church Cemetery.
