It is with broken hearts that we say goodbye to our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend, at the age of 96, peacefully with family at her side, on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Ste. Anne Hospital. Born and raised on a small farm in Anola, MB to John & Julia Kwiatkowski, the second youngest of 9 children.
Mom was predeceased by her parents, John & Julia Kwiatkowski, son Reggie at the age of 7, husband Russell in 2003, and siblings, Joe, Frank, Stanley, Ralph, Jean, Stella and Nellie. Left to cherish her precious memories are her loving family: Sharon (Ken) Brown, Pat (Shane) Christie, Darlene Figus, Rod (Tracey) Bell; dear Grandchildren – Curtis (Catherine), Crista (Gordon), Vanessa (Mark), Ashley (Jeff), Lindsay (Alec), Chad (Tamara), Brittany (Evan), Chelsey (Chris), and Great-Grandchildren – (Matthew (Brynn), Zachary (Jessica), Connor, Nicholas (Alexa), Natalie, Cole, Nova; brother Ted (Louise) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mom met the love of her life, Russell, at a dance in Monominto, MB, and the rest is history. They married on October 11, 1952, and raised 5 beautiful children, Sharon, Reggie, Pat, Darlene and Rod and continued their life in the Anola area.
Mom’s greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mom loved the outdoors, especially her garden, birds (some which she nurtured back to health) and animals, even the bears and deer who frequently appeared on her deck. She was well known for her baking, including her fabulous butter tarts, fruit-filled pies, especially lemon, her infamous perogies and famous borscht!. She loved to host many parties including Xmas and New Years in the early years with music and dancing where she would strap on the guitar or the violin and join in a jam session. She also loved to play cribbage and Saturday Kinsmen Bingo!
Her career started at Midtown Dry Cleaners and later in life Mom joined Dad delivering mail on the Dugald Mail Route for 17 years. As well they were classroom cleaners for the TSSD for 12 years.
Mom overcame many medical obstacles throughout her life, and we were told many times by doctors they had never met such a strong-willed woman.
We were so fortunate she got to celebrate her 96th birthday at home with her family.
Words cannot express our gratitude to the doctors, nurses, health care aides and staff at Ste. Anne Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at the Dugald Community Centre, 544 Holland St., Dugald, MB with remembrances beginning at 2:15pm. Interment to follow at Millbrook Cemetery.
