RUDDICK, Harry
1940 – 2023
It is with great sadness that the family of Harry Ruddick announces his peaceful passing at his home, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at the age of 82 years. Harry was born on February 7, 1940 in Ottawa, Ontario and spent his early childhood there before the family moved to Timmins, Ontario. Timmins was where he grew up, started his career, married Kathrine Sura and had four daughters. Harry obtained his Plumber, Steamfitter-Pipefitter and Gasfitter Journeyman Tickets, and eventually, started his own business, Northland Plumbing & Heating, which he operated for a number of years in Timmins. In 1981, he moved the family to Red Deer, Alberta, where he worked as a supervisor on the construction of the Capri Hotel. Harry would always go where the work was, which brought him back to Ontario, and abroad to Nassau, Bahamas, St. Lucia and Puerto Rico in the Caribbean, and Dallas, Texas. He had a passion for teaching the trade and this led him to an Instructor position within the Plumber and Steamfitter-Pipefitter Trades programs at Red Deer Polytechnic (then Red Deer College). After his retirement from teaching, Harry continued to work on projects for friends and family; he was one of those guys that knew how to do it all and couldn’t stay idle for long. He loved travelling to his vacation home in Harlingen, Texas during the winter months, and spending summer weekends at Pigeon Lake. He would also enjoy spending time working on his Ariens tractors, using one for lawn-mowing and one for snow-blowing, as well as the occasional hayride for the neighborhood kids. Harry will be lovingly remembered by his wife of fifty-nine years, Kathrine Ruddick of Red Deer, Alberta, his daughters, Karen (Tim Langevin) of Red Deer, Tracey (Lyle Schumacher) of Canmore, Alberta, Kimberly (Kevin Lalonde) of Oakville, Ontario, and his six grandchildren, Ryan and Justin Langevin, Christian, Alison and Bryce Schumacher and Lexia Lalonde. He will also be sadly missed by his brothers and sister-in-law, Michael (Lynda) Sura of Schumacher, Ontario and Eddie Pizzolato of Calgary, Alberta, as well as numerous nieces and nephews living across Canada. Harry was predeceased by his youngest daughter, Katherine ‘Kathy’ in 2014, his parents, Lexia and Kenneth and his older brothers, Leslie, James and Joseph Plant. Harry’s family would like to acknowledge and thank his wonderful friends and neighbors who offered support and encouragement, and helped with the work that Harry could no longer do himself. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, 4929 – 54 Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, March 10, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in Harry’s honor may be made directly to St. Luke’s Anglican Church at www.oldchurchrd.com/donate or The Mustard Seed in Red Deer, Alberta at www.theseed.ca.
