Obituary of H. James “Jim” Cox
Of RR3, Shedden (Frome), age 76, passed away at LHSC, University Hospital on Wednesday, June 15, 2023. Beloved husband and best friend for over 50 years to Jane (née Rycroft) Cox. Jim is also remembered by his Aunt Pat, and his in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Ronald W. (1992) and Norma Cox (2017), son, Christopher “Chris” Cox (2014), and brother Edward “Ted” Cox (1965).
Jim was born in St. Thomas on May 10, 1947. A retired painting contractor, he operated Cox Painting for many years. Jim was a member of Frome United Church. He was a long-time member of the Vintage Garden Tractor Club of America – Canadian (VGTCOA). Jim was a former officer and a 30-year member of Ozias Lodge #508, A.F. & A.M., Paris, ON, a life member of Enoch Council #10, Royal and Select Masters of Ontario, London, and Odo de St. Amand #17 Preceptory, Knights Templar, Oakland. He was a member of Mocha Shriners, London, having been a former executive member of the London Arab Patrol. Jim donated his time for many years during the annual Holiday Fantasy of Lights in St. Thomas, operating his bucket truck. He was known in the Frome area helping residents as the ‘unofficial P.U.C. free snowplow operator.’ Jim will be missed by many for his Werther’s candies, humour and laughter, and for being a generous man, both with his time and money. He would most definitely want you to consider registering as an organ/tissue donor.
As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or funeral service. Jim’s cremated remains will be interred privately in Elmdale Memorial Park. Flowers respectfully declined. Memorial donations to the Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario, Cystic Fibrosis Canada, or the Heart & Stroke Foundation will be gratefully acknowledged.
