Gwendolyn Alice Jones ( nee Moody)
October 16, 1931 – April 27, 2023
Gwen was predeceased by her husband Robert, her daughter Gail, her parents and most of her siblings. She leaves her brother, Michael Moody ( Dianne) of Fort Erie. Gwen also leaves her surviving daughters, Linda Jones (Toronto) and Dianne Waldron (Calgary). Her most cherished role was that of Grandma to her grandchildren Chris O’ Connor and Julie O’ Connor. She leaves many nieces and nephews and friends.
Gwen’s resilent and adaptable nature saw her through many moves and challenges throughout her life. As a very young woman, she moved from Niagara Falls to Toronto on her own to pursue her goal of becoming a Practical Nurse’s Aide. As a wife and mother, she moved reluctantly from Toronto to Belleville and then to Peterborough because of her husband’s work transfers. She re-entered the work force as a cashier at the A&P in Belleville and transferred to the A&P in Peterborough, where she worked until retirement and where she met her closest friends. In her later years, she moved to Calgary before returning, finally, to Peterborough. On her return from Calgary she lived with her grandson for 18 months until the increasing symptoms of dementia required more care.
Many thanks to the staff of the GAIN Clinic ( PRHC ), who were able to gain her trust and to provide invaluable support and guidance, to the ever kind and compassionate staff of Rubidge Retirement Residence and of the VON Woodland Centre Adult Day Program for their contribution to Gwen’s happiness and well-being. Gwen’s journey in this life came to an end in the care of the amazing staff of Extendicare Peterborough, especially everyone on Lilac Lane and Violet Way, who made Gwen feel like “one of the family” (her words) and made it safe for her to be her feisty, funny and grateful self. As Gwen would say: “Bless your hearts!” She will also be rememberd for her favourite saying: “Sounds like a plan!”
Aquamation has taken place. Following Gwen’s wishes, there will be no memorial service. Interment will take place at a later date in her birth city of Niagara Falls.
To honour Gwen’s memory, make a donation to her favourite charity, The Salvation Army, or to your preferred charity. Or, simply, thank someone for something today.
