Obituary of Greta Mary Blair

The passing of Greta Mary Blair of Fredericton, NB, wife of the late Richard “Dickie” Blair, occurred on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at York Care Centre. Born on May 25, 1936 in Belledune, NB, she was the daughter of the late Forrest and Louretta (Russell) Hickey of Belledune. Throughout her life, Greta worked for various employers including the Provincial Government, and was a regular member of the Y’s Menettes. Greta was an avid quilter, bingo, and card player, and enjoyed spending time with family.
Greta is survived by her grandsons, Richard Blair and Andrew Blair (Beth); three great-grandchildren, Olivia, Izaac, and Trisha; siblings Charles Hickey (Shirley), Anne Flinn, Erma Hogge, and Betty Simms; numerous nieces and nephews; and extended family.
Besides her husband and parents, Greta was predeceased by her son, Michael Blair, infant granddaughter, Tanya; and siblings, Lillian Doucette, Doris Hickey, Patrick Hickey, Bonnie Monaghan, Alma Chapman, Hester Hickey, and Forrest Hickey Jr.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 from 1-2 pm and will be followed by a Funeral Service in York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel at 2 pm with Father Maria Arokiam Chinnappan officiating. Those unable to attend in person may register to view the service online through the funeral home’s website. Interment will take place in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Fredericton at a later date. Remembrances can be made to the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick.
