Glen Roger Doblej
November 16, 1959 – December 25, 2022
It is with sorrow the family of Glen Roger Doblej announces his tragic passing on December 25, 2022. He was in tragic apartment fire and passed at Winnipeg Health Science Centre.
Glen was born in Mud River, Ontario. He lived most of his life in Winnipeg, moving there when he was a young adult. Glen was “wealthy” with the many friendships he developed over the years. His friends held a huge role in his day-to-day life. He was “rich” with laughter and jokes. Glen was predeceased by his parents, Josephine Doblej (Donio) and Anton Doblej and his grandparents Emma and Joseph Neance Donio.
Glen is lovingly remembered by his family; Uncle Isadore Donio, siblings Francis (Anne), Jim (Mel), Edward, Stanislav, Barbie (Harold) and Mary, nieces/nephews and extended relatives and his many friends. Glen was extremely close with his niece, Lisa-Marie Esquega. Lisa was sure to laugh at all his jokes and Lisa loved her uncle just as much. Glen loved his family and treasured his many friends he made along the way. Glen will be missed by all.
Glen spent a lot of time in Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre due to health issues and an accident. In July 2014, he developed Bacterial Meningitis. In April 2016, he was crossing a street with a friend, and they were both hit by the vehicle and left with many surgeries and health issues. This hit and run left him with many ailments and mobility issues. Glen took his rehab “like a trooper” which gave him the limited abilities he had. He always had a smile with a good joke! His last visit to the hospital was on December 25, 2022. While visiting a friend at her apartment, there was a fire in the apartment building, and he passed due to smoke inhalation. As soon as the family got word of the fire and Glen was taken to hospital in critical condition, the family rushed to be by his side. Unfortunately, Glen succumbed to his injuries before the family made it to the hospital.
The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses and wonderful staff at Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre. Since spending so much time at the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre, he developed many friendships (Claire and Sandra) at the hospital. Glen spent a lot of time at his favourite bar at the hospital where he would go to cheer on the Winnipeg Jets. Go Jets Go! Thank you to the bar staff and many friends he made while cheering on his team and enjoying a cold one.
Glen will be buried in his hometown of Armstrong, Ontario. There will be a visitation from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, in the chapel of Sargent and Son Funeral Home. Glen will be transported home to Armstrong for prayers and a funeral at Our Lady of Charity Church with burial immediately following.
