BEAVERS: E. Gerald

Gerald “Gerry” Beavers, aged 87, passed away peacefully at Manitou Lodge on February 26, 2023. Gerald was born on September 22, 1935, in Melfort, Saskatchewan, to his parents, Buford and Hazel Beavers and six weeks later moved to Watrous. Shortly after that, the family relocated to the farm at Xena, where his sister Marilyn was born. Gerry attended a one-room school for his first eight years and finished his education at Watrous High School. He enjoyed playing trombone in the high school band and continued to play with the local Watrous band. Gerry also excelled in sports and track and field. As a young man, Gerry worked several years in Vancouver, Moose Jaw and Saskatoon in various jobs before he took up farming. On March 27, 1965, he married Theresa Schaan and shortly after had two children, Murray and Noreen. Gerry and Theresa could be found at Danceland kicking up their heels every Saturday night. They never missed an opportunity to get together with friends to socialize, play cards and celebrate all occasions, big or small. Gerry enjoyed working with his hands, curling, fishing, chess, camping and travelling. His love of travel took him to many destinations, including Europe and Australia. He loved to make daily drives around Watrous, Manitou Beach and surrounding areas. Gerry was very close with his sister and remained in contact through frequent visits and phone calls. He also found joy in spending time with his grandchildren. About a year after Theresa’s passing in 2014, Gerry moved into the Manitou Lodge where he enjoyed the activities and received excellent care. Gerry was known for his sense of humour, love of the farm, and flashy red scooter. He is lovingly remembered by his son Murray (Michelle), grandchildren Drew and Carter, daughter Noreen, and everyone who knew him.
