It is with great sadness that the family of Gerlinde Malvar, 83 of Chester announces her passing on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at home in Chester.
Born in Blaubeuren , Germany she was the daughter of the late Engelbert and Lina Neuer.
Gerlinde’s career at Zehr’s Markets in Cambridge Ontario spanned 25 years. However, three things were important in Gerlinde’s life: Family, Faith and travel.
Growing up in war torn Germany, Gerlinde and her sister Marlis were thick as thieves and remained so for the rest of their lives. Their many childhood escapades entertained us for years! After she moved to Canada in 1960 and married, her greatest joy was her family. She took great pride in her daughters Annette and Kristine, but her granddaughters Lina and Sofia made her life complete. She loved being able to spend so much time with them in their young years and she was so proud and happy as they developed into young ladies. Gerlinde often expressed her love through her cooking and baking and her family certainly enjoyed her expressions of love!
Her time in the kitchen extended into her faith. Active in the New Apostolic Church since childhood, she became a strong and faithful member in Cambridge Ontario. As part of a lifelong trio with Shirley Friess (Wright) and Laura Wiesel, they did it all! From supporting her husband’s work as a Priest, to cooking after-service meals, welcoming overseas guests into her home, to decorating the altar with her gift with flowers, she was a dedicated member. Her floral abilities at church also allowed her to travel to Benin in Africa. This trip fed her last joy…travel.
Whether travelling with her sister throughout Europe on many different occasions, to NY, Chicago, Montreal, Washington and Florida with her daughters and/or her sister or to California, England or Benin with the church, her desire to learn and experience was never satisfied.
Gerlinde is survived by her two daughters, Kristine (Kevin) Oickle, Pine Grove and Annette Malvar (Eileen Rynn) of New York, USA; grandchildren, Lina Oickle and Sofia Oickle; niece Carolyn Kotlowski and her children Marius and Micha of Germany.
She was predeceased by her husband, Sergio, and her sister, Marlis Günter.
A funeral service for Gerlinde will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 5, 2023 at the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 121213 Hwy. #3, Lunenburg.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Gerlinde’s memory to Souls Harbour Rescue Mission or to the Lunenburg County VON would be appreciated by the family.
