It is with great sadness that the family of Gerd Richard Kirchner, 81, of Parkdale, announce his passing on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.
Born in Lahr, Germany, Gerd was a son of the late Hermann and Anna Kirchner.
He received his earlier education in Germany and moved to Alberta, Canada, in 1967, where he entered the steel fitting and manufacturing business. In 1993, Gerd moved to Parkdale and continued in the lift service industry operating his business, GL Hoist, which found him travelling throughout the Maritimes. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life and was happiest when he was outdoors, enjoying his farm, and surrounded by nature.
Gerd is survived by his wife, Linda; son, Dominic (Susan) of Irricana, Alberta; daughters, Ramona Lord, Carseland, Alberta, Simone Richter, Calgary, Alberta; step-daughter, Lisa (Mark) Pomfrey-Talbot, Bridgewater; step-son, Ashley Pomfrey, Bridgewater; grandchildren, Owen, Amy, Joshua, Derek, Justin, Jordyn, Jayden, Lydia, and Catherine; great grandchildren, Evelyn, Aria, and Cole; and sisters Roswitha, Jutta, and Gerlinde.
Gerd was predeceased by his parents, Herman and Anna Susanna Waldburga (Bild), his second wife, Irene, his brother, Manfred, and sisters Brigitte and Ingrid.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg. A memorial service to celebrate Gerd’s life will be held on Thursday, May 4, at 2:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Parkdale-Maplewood, Pastor Sam Jess, officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Lunenburg County VON, Parkinson’s Society, Hope for Wildlife or to a charity of your choice.
