BOND, Gerry
February 1937 – February 2023
Gerry passed away at the Moncton Hospital on February 3, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer. At the time of his passing he was surround by his loving wife and members of his extended family.
Gerry was born in Glace Bay, N.S. to Charles and Winnie Bond, one of thirteen children. From 1960 to 1978, he spent a number of years in Germany and Ottawa, first, as a member of the Royal Canadian Army Pay Corps, and later with the Superannuation Branch of the Federal Government. In 1978, he moved to New Brunswick when the Federal Government relocated the Superannuation Branch. He remained in the Moncton/Shediac area until 1989. From 1989 he spent time between Ottawa and Shediac, N.B., until his retirement in 2004.
Gerry is survived by his wife Helen (Moncton, N.B.); his daughter Catherine (John Holdom), Caledonia, ON; grandchildren, Mario Deluca, Matt Holdom, and Jenna Holdom, all of Ontario; his first wife Margo (Catherine’s mother) of Ottawa; brother Mel Bond (Norma) Whitby, ON; Janice Brown (George), Calgary, AB; Sharon Watts, Winnipeg, MB; Rose Lewycky, Winnipeg, MB; Linda Bond, Brampton, ON; step children: Mike Burke (Karen) Musquodoboit, N.S.; Elaine Fitzpatrick (Roy) Kelowna, BC; Rick Burke (Val), Moncton, N.B; Patrick Burke (Grace) Calgary, AB; and, two great granddaughters and numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents; his sisters Erva (Gordon) Deacon, Winnipeg, Audrey Mugford , Glace Bay; Eunice Sarasin, Winnipeg, brothers Byron (Ruby), Cambridge; and Blenus (Jane), Winnipeg.
Thank you to his family doctor, Dr Power, Dr Murphy, Dr McNally, the nurses and staff of Oncology, and the staff of M.A.I.D. for their compassion, care and support for Gerry and his family during his final days.
At Gerry’s request there will be no funeral or service. A Celebration of Life may be held at a later date to be announced.
