Georgina Victoria Anne Brown (nee Watson)
24 May 1934 – 6 July 2023
In the early morning hours of July 6, 2023 surrounded by family in Stettler, Alberta, Georgina Victoria Anne Brown passed away peacefully after a brief illness.
Predeceased on December 3, 2021, by Bill, her loving and devoted husband of 69 years and by her mother (Dorathy Watson) and father (Albert Watson) and granddaughter Jennifer Brown.
Georgina leaves behind sons Randy (Barbara); Ted (Maricel); daughters Roxanne Watson (Bob) and Beverly Soellner (Dennis) and their families. Gramma was very much loved by her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mom worked and served in many roles in her lifetime culminating in a long tenure as an administrator for the municipality of Donalda where she was deeply involved in disaster planning and response.
Some of Mom’s favourite pastimes were playing crib with Dad and bowling where a competitive instinct emerged. Aside from Mom and Dad’s lifelong crib playing, they played and won in tournaments literally across Canada. She was also a pretty good bowler having played her way to at least one national senior ladies bowling championship title.
A devoted sports fan Mom played and attended sporting events her entire life. But it is her love of baseball that captured her heart and soon, Dad’s heart. Mom and Dad first met at an inter school softball tournament in their early teens. Until she passed, Mom closely followed and cheered for her Toronto Blue Jays.
Perhaps for family, one of Mom’s (and Gramma’s) most endearing, and enduring, talents was a natural gift for music. Mom was an enthusiastic and accomplished pianist. She also played accordion and guitar with quiet confidence and great skill from a very early age. For several years, as a young teenager she garnered public attention by playing music, with her father (Albert), while riding chuckwagons in the Calgary Stampede parade and each evening after the chuckwagon races, in the horse barns.
Not a secret by any stretch and well received by all until the last few years, especially her grandchildren, was Mom’s culinary skills. The star of many dinners and festive occasions was her turkey dinners featuring a spectacular spread. Her mashed potatoes and dressing, in spite of their supporting roles, had many a grandchild coming back for seconds and, to this day emulating.
We love you Mom and will forever miss you.
