McKenzie, George: It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing on April 29 of a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be missed by Lois, his wife of 72 years, and his children Richard (Diana), Nancy (Lew) Park, and Robert (Gina). He was a proud grandfather to Scott (Wendy), Chris (Kate), Melanie (Paul), Caitlin, and Braeden. His great-granddaughter, Briar, always brought a smile to his face. George was predeceased by his parents Alexander McKenzie and Janet “Jessie” Stewart and sister Elizabeth “Betty” Finley.
George was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1926 He served as a member of the British Royal Navy on HMS Glasgow in World War II. He immigrated to Canada in 1947, where he had a 30+ year career at Greening Donald Wire Rope and Perforated Metal Company.
He was an avid golfer and curler and a long-time member of both the Dundas Valley Golf and Curling Club and the Dundas Granite Curling Club. Known for his attention to detail, he was a skilled woodworker and was a meticulous money manager. He will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family. His legacy will live on through the lives he touched and the memories he created. He recently pointed out that he had lived through a depression, a World War, and a pandemic! He saw it all!
We would like to thank the staff at Amica Dundas for their care and dedication during the time he was there, and especially their efforts throughout the pandemic.
A private family service to honour his life will be held at a later date. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
