Mr. Gary William Burns passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at the age of 76 years. Gary was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on September 13, 1946, to Harry and Eunice Burns. Gary graduated from the University of Manitoba as a Geological Engineer and started his career with Shell. Being an entrepreneur by nature, eventually he founded Tri Link Resources, which went on to become a Public Company. His passion for the outdoors led him to enjoy many adventures, such as river kayaking, sailing, scuba diving, golfing, fly fishing, and skiing. Gary loved his second home on a tiny island in the Grenadines and will be sadly missed by the many beautiful friends made there, over thirty years. Gary loved animals and is sadly leaving behind two special dogs. He helped found an animal shelter on Union Island in the Grenadines. Gary pursued every task with gusto, and after retiring, he became an avid and talented bird carver, and went on to win the World Intermediate Carver of the Year. Through his pursuit of this, he was fortunate to meet and form many wonderful friendships. Now Gary has sailed off on the turquoise waters, into the horizon. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of thirty-five years, Cheryl; his daughters, Colleen Fischinger and Tamiko Bosworth; his stepson, Andre Borduas; and his five beloved grandchildren, Krysta Nagel, Joshua Bosworth, Bailey Bosworth, Chantel Borduas and Dominique Borduas. He will also be sadly missed by his brothers, Jim Burns of Winnipeg, Manitoba and Randy Burns of Costa Rica, as well as numerous family members and dear friends. Gary was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Eunice Burns. A Private Family Celebration of Gary’s Life will be held at a later date. If desired, Memorial Donations in Gary’s honor may be made directly to the Canadian Red Cross at www.redcross.ca. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta.
