Freeman Maxwell Brake
September 29, 1937 – November 27, 2022
The family of the late Freeman M. Brake are saddened to announce his passing at the age of 85, at the Corner Brook Long Term Care Home, on November 27, 2022, with his family by his side.
Leaving to mourn with many precious memories, his loving wife of 64 years, Maisie (nee Pike); his daughters: Debbie, Joanne (Junior) Young, Lorena (Arthur) Hamilton, and Carrie Lynn; His grandchildren: Justin Young, John Darby Hamilton, and Olivia Hamilton; great grandson Maxwell Greenham-Young; his sister, Elizabeth Meade; sisters-in-law Fern Murphy and Dorothy Brake; step-grandchildren: Cory (Nicolle) McKinnon and Chad (Misty) McKinnon and their families; as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
Freeman was predeceased by his parents, William H. and Beatrice (Park) Brake; parents-in-law Harrison and Annie (Murley) Pike; his sisters: Vivian (Llew) Neil, Susie March, Edna (Otto) Brake, Olive (Les) Park, Marjorie (Alexander), Eileen (Llew) Brett, Lillian (Jack) Loder and Bertha (Joe) Davis; brothers: Frank (Annie) Brake, Harvey Brake, William (Madeline) Brake, John Brake, and Stanley (Jean) Brake; sister-in-law Muriel (Johnny) Simms; brothers-in-law: Ken Meade, Fred (Josephine) Pike, and Gerald Murphy; and son-in-law Joe McKinnon.
Freeman was a career CN Railway employee. He was the family historian. He loved a hockey or baseball game, enjoyed a good joke or story, and could chat for hours as long as the TV wasn’t on. He was always just a call away for any of us, at any time, and would walk through fire for his girls – mother bear and her cubs! There are no words to describe the loss we feel or to say how very much he will be missed.
We would like to extend special thanks to his niece Jocelyn; to Reverend Canon Tanya White; to the staff at Corner Brook Long Term Care Home and especially 3 Northeast.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, from the hours of 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue. Funeral service will take place on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at All Saint’s Anglican Church, Clarence Street, with Reverend Canon Tanya White officiating. Interment to follow at Mt. Patricia Cemetery. Please note: The family is requesting that everyone please wear masks for the visitation and funeral.
No flowers by request. Donations may be made to All Saints Anglican Church Memorial Fund.
