Obituary
Peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family, Fred passed away on January 19, 2023 in his 100th year to his heavenly home. Predeceased by his loving wife, Helen (July 2020). He will be remembered and deeply missed by his loving children: Debbie & Brian Whatmough; Colleen; Susan & Brian Aubert; Lee. Cherished Grandpa to: Nicole & Darryl Dorsman (Joshua, Jayne), Matthew Whatmough & Emilia Mercante, Steven Aubert, Brittany & Tim Ellis (Zoey, Amelia), Breanne Smith & Derek Bailey.
He will be deeply missed by Miranda & Henry Heersink, his sister-in-law Min Frost and sister-in-law/brother-in-law Beverly & Ron Ferguson, many wonderful nieces, nephews and friends. Fred is predeceased by his brothers Sterling, Oscar and Wray and sister Laura Bond.
Fred grew up and lived his 99 years in Troy, enjoying dairy farming, custom farm work throughout the community where he came to know many people and all the back roads. When most men would retire, Fred continued to do chores with the horses, cut everyone’s grass with their riding lawn mowers, had chickens so he could sell and deliver eggs around the area, and stop in at various homes for coffee. Fred always welcomed people into his home and after Helen’s passing he still made sure there were sweets or pie available to serve with coffee.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 22, 2023 from 5-8 p.m. at KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill Street North, Waterdown, and on Monday, January 23, 2023 from 10-11 a.m. at PROVIDENCE FREE REFORMED CHURCH, 269 St. George Road, St. George. The Funeral Service will begin at 11 a.m. Private Family Interment at Mt. Zion Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Fred’s honour to Stedman Community Hospice, 445 Grey Street, Brantford, ON N3S 6X1
