It is with deep sadness that we announce
the passing of Frederick Moore Hurley,
84, of Amherst. Fred passed away on Friday, February 10,
2023 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.
Born in Maccan, Fred was a son of the
late Charles and Hazel (Cameron) Hurley.
Fred was a Sergeant with the Royal
Canadian Regiment serving for 25 years. He was a paratrooper
jumping from C-119 aircraft and serving in Europe, including Soest,
Germany and London, Ontario as well as the Middle East. He
was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion.
After the military, Fred’s passions
included painting and collecting art, in particular Haida
Art. Not a fan of the winters, Fred spent many winters on
Queen Charlotte Islands.
Fred will be dearly missed by his
brothers; Charles “Chuck” (Charlene) Hurley and Phil (Cathy)
Hurley; sisters, Joan Murphy and Marjorie “Midge” Wood;
sister in law, Starr Hurley; as well as several nieces and
nephews.
Besides his parents he was predeceased
by his brothers Doug and Jack Hurley, and his brother-in-law, John
Murphy.
Arrangements are under the care and
direction of Jones Family Funeral
Centre, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS,
(902-667-8777). Honouring Fred’s wishes cremation has taken
place and there are to be no services at this
time.
Donations in memory of Fred may be made
to the Maccan Cemetery or your local branch of the Royal Canadian
Legion.
