It is with great sadness that the family of Freda Muriel
Jones announces her passing on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Paradise
Villa at the age of 89. Freda was born in Dorn Ridge , NB, on February
13, 1934, to the late Winslow and Matilda (Lawrence) Gallagher. In
addition to her parents, Freda was predeceased by her husband, Burpee,
sons Andrew, Dwayne and Dwight and daughter Lorraine, son-in-law
Arthur Hazlett, along with brothers Ottie, Allison, Milford, Herschel,
Ralph and George and sisters Greta, Bertie, Queenie, Guida and
Clara.
She is survived by her youngest sister, Madeline Sharpe
(Raymond), three daughters, Wanda Jones (Richard Pedersen), Susan
Pugh, Sherry Jones (Tony Dunphy); daughter-in-law Joyce Jones;
grandchildren, Chris Jones (Jessica Yerxa), Dwayne Jones (Alaina
Nicholson), Alex Jones, Andrea Jones, Meaghan Fu (Lingchao), Nick
Pugh; great grandchildren; Graeme Morehouse (Morgan), Justin
Gillespie(Haylee), Zac Morehouse, Tyson Morehouse-Watson (Vanessa),
Levi and Hayden Jones, Jordan Jones (Colin), Caitlin Jones
(Matt),Felix and Oscar Fu and also by one great-great grandson,
Cooper.
Freda was a stay-at-home mom who thrived on providing a safe
and happy home for her family and for many kids around the
“corner”. She was always happiest when she was surrounded by
family whether it be with putting the cookie jar between the legs of
the little grandson who faked sick so he could stay home from school
with Grammie or putting a big home cooked Sunday dinner on the table
for 20 people. This was her “happy place” and she did it so
well. Family was everything to her.
Freda was a great friend to her long time neighbours at the
“corner” and always looked forward to the quilting circle on
Tuesdays at the church. She, along with her sharp sense of humour and
candour, will be greatly missed by her remaining family and friends
– a void that cannot be filled.
The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to the
staff of Paradise Villa, which was truly her “home away from
home” for the past 4 years. We are forever grateful for the
loving care and companionship she received there. She so enjoyed the
music of Don, Earl and Clayton that all other social events or family
visits had to be cancelled on those performance days.
Bishop’s Funeral Home have been entrusted with the
arrangements. A private graveside service will be held at the
Burtt’s Corner Community Cemetery at a later date. For those
who would like to make a donation in Freda’s memory, the
family have suggested the Burtt’s Corner Cemetery,
Cornerstone Bible Church or donor’s choice.
