Passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton on Friday, January 27, 2023, Fortunato (Lucky) Vescio, at the age of 76. Beloved husband and best friend to Mary of 44 years. Cherished father to Pina (Frank), Rachela (Joe) and Fiore (Maryam). Proud and loving Nonno to Nicholas, Lucy and Milo.
Loving son of the late Fiore and Peppina Vescio and son-in law of the late Valente and Giovanna Vescio. Fortunato was the dear brother of Rachela (late Francesco) Ruberto, Anina (late Angelo) Mancuso, Santina (Domenic) Trapasso, Maria (late Renzo) Guandalini, Raffaela (late Franco) Esposto, Rosina (Carmelo) Bianco, Concetta (Franco) Cimino, Teresa (Vincenzo) Cimino and the late Carmela (Antonio) Mercuri. Brother-in-law to Santina (late Luciano) Capocci and Virgilio (Nancy) Vescio. Fortunato will also be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Fortunato was a humble and gracious person with a big heart. His greatest passion was loving his family unconditionally and he was an avid gardener. Fortunato was a hard worker with the Labours’ International Union of North America (LiUNA) with 55 proud years of service and dedication.
A special thanks and our sincere gratitude goes to nurse Shag for her compassionate care and to all the staff on the Nephrology unit, who supported us through this journey. Fortunato’s last few days were made easier by the friendly and caring staff and volunteers.
We know that you are still by our side walking with us, forever on our minds. Our cherished memories will always bring smiles to our faces. Your love is our guiding light. You are loved beyond words and forever in our hearts.
Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 454 Highway #8 (east of Millen Road) Stoney Creek on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, from 3-5pm and 7-9pm. Prayer Vigil at 8:30 pm at the Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at 10am. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
