F. B. “Bruce” Ryans
31 Jan 1935 – 7 Mar 2023
Passed peacefully at 88 years of age on Tuesday, March 7th 2023 at Cambridge Memorial Hospital.
Bruce was born and raised in Toronto, the only child of Fred and Eileen. He was a long time member of the scouting movement, a King Scout, Skipper of the 4th Preston Scout Troop and District Scout Master for Waterloo South. Bruce had a full career as a public school teacher starting in Oakville before moving to Preston to teach at Central, Coronation and William G. Davis public schools, primarily teaching science and history. He introduced many students to canoe trips in Algonquin Park via The William G. Davis Canoe Club. Bruce also organized the school’s annual release of helium balloons carrying student’s letters in hopes of replies from the greatest distance. Those who knew him may recall Bruce best accompanied by various Irish Wolfhounds that were his constant companions for so many years.
Bruce is predeceased by his wife Shirley, nee Fink and survived by his sons Sean (Jennifer) and Daniel, granddaughters Sioban (Marty) and Isibeal, great-grandsons Brendan and Caiden. Bruce is also predeceased by his longtime friend Shirley Ronald (2020).
Donations to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation would be sincerely appreciated.
