Obituary
It is with great sadness that the Gilley and Ball families announce the passing of their wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, Evelyn Clarice [Ball] Gilley. Evelyn passed away at the Corner Brook Long Term Care Facility on Saturday, June 24th, 2023.
Evelyn Clarice (Ball) was born in Deer Lake on June 11th, 1930, to Stewart and Dulcie Ball. Evelyn had 14 brothers and sisters.
Evelyn grew up and attended school in Deer Lake. As a young woman she worked for some time at the Royal Canadian Legion. She later moved to Botwood to work as a nursing assistant. On September 6th, 1958, she married Stephen R. Gilley and, together, they raised three sons, Tyrone, Kerry and Clay: one daughter, Clarice. After her marriage Evelyn decided to be a stay-at-home mother.
Evelyn never had any hobbies, but she did enjoy Bingo and Card games for many years until she had an encounter with Jesus. Several years ago, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour and there was a change in her habits and choice of what she chose to be involved with. She did enjoy her car rides with Steve to look for moose.
She was a faithful member of Emmanuel Pentecostal Church for many years where she was involved in the Women’s Ministries and the 60 plus ministry. She faithfully attended church regularly until prevented by failing health. For the last number of years she has been a resident at the Corner Brook Long Term Care. Both Evelyn and her family were very appreciative of the care and compassion shown to her by the staff.
Evelyn leaves to mourn her children Tyrone (Roberta), Dean (Christine), Kerry and Clarice (Budd); daughter-in-law Tammy and stepdaughter Colleen (David); 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren, her only remaining sibling Edna Manuel and sisters-in-law Ruth Ball and Shelia Gilley, as well as a number of nieces, nephews and a wide circle of friends. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents Stewart & Dulcie Ball; son Clay Gilley; 8 brothers, 5 sisters, 13 brothers-in-law and 7 sisters-in-law.
