Obituary
It is with appreciation of life well-lived and gratitude for many years of memories, that the family of Elva Steele, wife of the late Joseph Steele, announces her passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital on January 30, 2023. Born in Saint John on January 2, 1934, she was a daughter of the late William and Mildred (Beatty) Thompson.
Elva worked her early years for the school board and was one of the first female bus drivers in Saint John. She kept the books for the family business, Steele’s Trucking Ltd., for many years. She enjoyed her summers “in the hills” Barnesville where she enjoyed gardening and had a love for animals.
Elva is survived by her children: Kevin (Joan) Steele, and Debbie Steele; grandchildren Vicky Jo (Jeff) Porter, Jeff (Ashley) Steele, and Jared (Emily) Steele; great grandchildren Ledger, Tucker, Jaxon, Nash, and Aidan; sisters: Carol Dallon, Norma Dunn; brother: Roy Thompson; as well as several nieces and nephews. Elva was predeceased by her parents William and Mildred, as well as her two sisters Ada and Mern and three brothers Theodore, Art and Murray.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506)-646-2424, with no public visitation taking place. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 1st, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 4347 Loch Lomond Rd., at 10:00 AM.
Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
