Obituary of Elsie Marguerite Rose Batch
Elsie Marguerite Rose Batch (nee Berry), passed away peacefully at the St. Marys Memorial Hospital on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at the age of 87. Born in St. Marys, Ontario on June 19, 1935 and daughter of the late James Berry and Dorothy Hicks. Beloved wife of the late George Batch, who were married in 1954. Loved mother of Lorraine McDonald (David) and Roger Batch (Tracey). Loved grandmother of Christopher, Aaron (Danielle), Ethan and great grandmother of Alexander.
Elsie was a passionate gardener, who you would see on many sunny summer days planting and weeding in her rose gardens. Elsie had many hobbies including knitting sweaters and children’s clothing, dress making, sewing, crocheting and stitching. Her kitchen was often busy with baking a variety of meals and desserts including baking for the St James Anglican Church. Elsie could also be seen swinging the golf club with her husband George now and again, when they were not on one of their weekend getaways. These getaways often saw them driving around Ontario, west to Michigan or east as far as New Jersey (Cape May).
Visitation at the Andrew L. Hodges Funeral Home, 47 Wellington Street South, St. Marys on Monday, March 20, 2023 from 7 – 8 pm. The funeral service will be held at St. James Anglican Church, 65 Church Street South, St. Marys, on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at 1 p.m. Following the interment in St. Marys Cemetery, a reception will be held in the Parish Hall.
