BAER: Elmer John “Pa” – passed away peacefully on Monday, June 19, 2023 at the Grand River Hospital, Kitchener. Elmer Baer of Plattsville in his 91st year.
Beloved husband of Kathleen “Kay” (nee Palmer) Baer whom he married October 6, 1956. Dear father to Jeff & wife Debbie of Plattsville and Chris & husband Rod Yeck of Bright. Pa of Matt & Amie, Trevor “Tree”, Ashley, Nick & Kristyn, Amanda & Cory and Great Pa to Sasha, Caitlyn, Patrick, Jamie, Claire, Ben, Lucy, Kenzie and Remy.
Predeceased by his parents Eldon & Clara (Bricker) Baer, brothers Clarence & Arthur & wife Noreen Baer, mother and father in-law Robert & Dorothy Palmer, sister-in-law Eleanor McDermott and husbands Colin McDermott and Reg Schram
Pa was born on the Family farm just outside of Plattsville on the 14th Concession and became a very big part of the Plattsville community. Pa was the Plattsville Arena Manager for 27 years and served in many different rolls including a long time involvement with the Plattsville Minor Hockey and several decades with the Grand Valley Minor Hockey. He was an integral part of the Plattsville Arena Board for many years and was Mr. Fix It for both the Plattsville Arena and the Plattsville Curling Club. Pa was also an active member of the Peace United Church having served on the Board of Trustee’s, caretaker and a long time choir member.
Relatives and friends will be received at the Glendinning Funeral Home, 40 William St. N. Plattsville on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8pm. Funeral Service will be conducted from Peace United Church, Plattsville on Friday, June 23, 2023 at 1:00pm. Interment to follow in Union Cemetery, New Dundee. Reception to follow at the Plattsville Arena.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Peace United Church, Ontario Wildlife Foundation or the Ronald McDonald House – Southwestern Ontario and would be appreciated by the family. Personal condolences can be posted at www.gffh.ca
The family would like to thank all of the Front Line workers for the care given to Pa in the last chapter of his life.
