Elizabeth’s Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Rose Dechant (nee Doll), resident of Fairview, AB. She passed away peacefully on Monday, August 21, 2023 with family by her side.
Elizabeth was born in Notikewan, AB, on April 12, 1941. Her early school days were in North Star and then graduated high school in Manning, AB. She went on to learn the skills of a Nurse’s Assistant at the Providence Hospital in High Prairie, AB.
On July 25, 1962, Elizabeth married Edward Dechant and they started their life together on the homestead in Hawk Hills, AB. The young family moved to the Dechant farm in Friedenstal in 1973 when Edward’s parents, George and Margaret retired from farming.
Elizabeth was instrumental in getting her family involved in the local agricultural fairs and was proud of the ribbons brought home. She was known for her amazing baking; especially her homemade buns and cinnamon rolls. She was a loving, dedicated wife and mother supporting Edward, the farm, and raising their children. Elizabeth had a deep devotion to her Catholic faith and was a long time member of the Catholic Women’s League.
Elizabeth is survived by her husband of 61 years Edward, five children: Marilyn (Ronald) Simonsmeier, Susan (Jordie) Carlson, Laureen (Walter) Krumshyn, Joan (Ben) Jacobson, and Philip (Jody) Dechant; twelve grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren; as well as siblings: Wendelin, Emanuel (Lynda), Kenneth, and Martin (Debi).
Elizabeth is predeceased by her beloved parents, Martin and Katherina Doll (nee Heck), dear daughter Cathy Dechant, sister-in-laws Myrna Doll, Dalbir Doll, and nephew Emanuel Doll Jr.
Elizabeth was a sweet, kind soul and she will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, September 2nd, 2023, 11:00 am at St. Thomas More Church in Fairview, Alberta. Rev. Isidore Onyeka, SMMM will be officiating.

The Fairview Home Care team provided exceptional support to the family in caring for Elizabeth during her last weeks.
