Obituary
Eleanor Bell
On July 8,2023 surrounded by the love and comfort of her daughters and family,
Eleanor Bell turned the page to the next chapter of her life journey, to join her heavenly family on their eternal quest.
Mom was born September 12, 1932 to George and Elizabeth Couture. She grew up on the family farm near Selkirk.
Her chore as a child was to gather the eggs, her joy was chasing the animals and caring for them. Her love for all creatures was boundless.
She was the youngest of 5 children and was adored and of course spoiled by her siblings as a child.
However life did not spoil Eleanor. Like most women of her generation she had grit and determination.
She faced many adversity with her special brand of humour and acerbic wit.
Because she was a voracious reader of most genres, she was able to command conflicting situations with the vernacular of a cowboy, a jilted lover, a Private Eye or a British professor. Her children learned from her to love books and reading.
Eleanor at a young age worked as a Health Care Aid at the Selkirk General Hospital. This is where she met her future husband Kristinn Bell whom she married in 1955.
Together they raised 7 children. They started their young life and family on Hecla Island at Kristinns family home.
After their 3rd child was born they moved back to the farm to care for her mother who had become ill.
Eleanor continued to work along side her sister Joan at the Selkirk General Hospital. They both worked there for over 40 years.
Eleanor was well known for her care and compassion for the patients she was in charge of.
Mom was predeceased by her brother Bob, her parents, 4 of her children David, Dennis, Susan, and Cindy.
Also by 2 sons in law Bob Riter and Carl Gregg, grandson Mathew Gregg.
She leaves to cherish her memory daughters Christine, Liz [ Doug ], Sandra [ Ken], 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
As well her sister Joan, brothers George and Edgar [Irene], daughters in law Maggie and Colleen, and son in law Bobby Poitras.
Thank you to the staff at Betel Home for the exemplary care they provided and for appreciating our mothers spirited nature.
A thank you to Dr. Matters for the incredible care and compassion given to our mother during her final days.
The family would also like to thank Eleanor’s friend Edith for her companionship.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Cemetery.
