Eleanor Lorraine (née Barfoot) Askin formerly of Kincardine, passed away peacefully at Caressant Care – Harriston, with her daughter by her side, on Friday, April 28th, 2023, in her 94th year,
Devoted wife of the late John Askin.
Loving mother to Randy and Darlene Askin of London, Sharon and Paul McKnight of Harriston and Wayne and Melissa Askin of Gowanstown.
Fondly remembered by her grandchildren, Stacey (Jordan), Lindsey (Ryan), Patrick, Brock (Jacqueline), Jacob (Krya), and Clark and step-grandson Carmeron (Sara).
Great-grandmother of Myles, Jack, Greyson, Jake, and Layla.
Survived by her twin sister Eileen Cruickshank of Owen Sound, brother Nelson (Faye) Barfoot of Kitchener, and sister Marjorie Givens of Owen Sound.
Predeceased by her parents Norman and Mary (née Anderson) Barfoot of Owen Sound, brothers Elmer and Ronald Barfoot, brothers-in-laws Robert Cruickshank and Donald Givens and sister-in-law Molly Barfoot.
Eleanor was born July 30th, 1929, in Owen Sound. She married John Askin in June 1952, they resided in Owen Sound until 1960, when John and Eleanor and their 2 children started a new adventure in Kincardine, where she lived in the house they built until 2012.
Her family and home were the focus of her life. She was a proud mother and even prouder grandmother. She always cherished her times spent with her children and grandchildren. A true hockey mom, always willing to transport players to and from hockey games. Eleanor enjoyed curling, playing darts , snowmobiling, cards, camping and later in life took up playing golf with her husband.
She will be missed and never forgotten.
Visitation will take place at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine on Friday, May 5th, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., where the funeral service to honour Eleanor’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m., with Rev. Gord Dunbar officiating.
Eleanor will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Kincardine Cemetery.
Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
