Eleanor Anne Wagner passed away at the High River hospital on December 31 2022 at the age of 86. She is survived by her sons Greg, Rob (Diana), and Gordon (Sharon); grandchildren Ryan, Jackie (Trevor), Tara, Ty (Courtney), Tricia, and Taylor; and great-grandchildren Zachary, Adison, Wyatt, Weston, Ryder, Austin, Bo, and Cambria. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Colleen and Margaret Brewin, and Iva Jean Wagner; brother-in-law Allan Scott; brother-in-law Keith (Mary) Wagner, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Eleanor was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Harry Wagner, and her brothers Alfred (Lillian), Norman (Doris), Jack (Mary), Gerald, Frank, Rodney, and Tim (Pat) Brewin, and sisters Monica (Jim) Berryhill, and Marjorie Scott.
Eleanor was the fifth of seven children of Marjorie and Rowland Frank Brewin Sr. She also had two half brothers and a half sister from her father’s first marriage. She was born on March 31, 1936, and raised on the family farm near Purple Springs, Alberta. As a child she attended nearby Sherburne and Hudson Country Schools and went to high school at the Meyers School in Taber. In 1953, she attended the Olds School of Agriculture and Home Economics, and after graduating in 1955 moved to Calgary. While in Calgary she worked at the Alberta Motor Association
She married Harry Wagner on July 19, 1957. In their early years they lived in Calgary where their three sons were born. In 1974, they fulfilled their dream of moving to an acreage near High River. Shortly after moving to the acreage, she worked for a few years at the Cayley School. She had fond memories of the students she encountered there. After that, she had a long career with the Foothills School Division in High River. At the acreage they raised a small herd of Charlois cattle, as well as peacocks and exotic pheasants. Upon her retirement she remained on her beloved acreage into her early 80s devoting her time to maintaining the yard, garden and flower beds, as well as feeding the birds.
